Active4Life is a pioneering initiative which takes a asset-based approach to building active communities; from the inside-out. Over 2 years we will be working in 3 places across Derbyshire to support local people to create a culture of physical activity.
Asset based approaches build on what’s strong, not what’s wrong. Initial effort goes into unearthing and connecting with local people who have energy, ideas and who care about themselves, each other and their place. Enabling those people to lead in their place is central to this way of working and achieves sustainable change in the long term. Connecting the wider system around the ‘abcd’ model will be central to our approach and learning in Derbyshire and we are working with colleagues from Sport England, Active Derbyshire, Live Life Better Derbyshire, CCGs, Public Health and Local Authorities to achieve the culture shift required for lasting change.
In this, our second evaluation piece, we explore how the networks are progressing in each community, what’s been achieved so far and what it takes to build a culture of trust in doing this work.
We have committed to producing an internal review every 3 months with the intention of revealing the value of the work as we go and to inform future action. Reflective practice and continuous learning underpin all of this work and have become central to our daily routines.

If you would like further information about the approach or the evaluation techniques, please contact Andrea Kemp.
We have developed a series of workshops to support others who are developing asset based ways of working and we would be happy to tailor a learning opportunity to suit your needs.
