Hi, I’m Lucy and I’m a Jog Derbyshire Coordinator at Shift. Read on to find out what my role is all about.
On a typical day where might we find you?
Typical day? What’s that?! Every day is different, which I love! I can often be found out and about across Derbyshire meeting jog groups and leaders or at the Shift office catching up with the team.
What brought you to Shift?
I’ve always had a keen interest in health and fitness and spent my 20s working as a class instructor, personal trainer and within leisure management. My passion lies in helping others achieve what they thought they couldn’t and supporting people as they work to improve their physical and mental health. I am a big believer of the benefits of being active with others. I taught group exercise classes for years and saw how much of a difference it made when people cared for and supported one another so when the opportunity arose to work as a Jog Derbyshire Coordinator I was excited to be involved in a project that promoted these values in all its work.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
The people! Leaders, co-leaders, participants….. Meeting people is without a doubt what I enjoy the most. Learning about where others have come from, their journeys, and hearing first hand how being involved in local jog groups has changed lives is truly inspiring. I also really enjoy working outside. We find more and more beautiful places Derbyshire has to offer all the time. Working with a great team of like minded people who share the same values of getting people active and connected in their communities is pretty awesome too!
What’s the best thing about Jog Derbyshire?
Again, it has to be the people. Without the volunteers who work together to make a difference in their communities we wouldn’t be able to do the work we do. They are all simply brilliant! Being able to witness and capture the value of seeing people working together is a pleasure and a privilege.
Whats your favourite hobby?
I enjoy outdoor activities, travelling, music and theatre. And running of course…..do I have to say that?!
What’s your favourite place?
There are so many to choose from! I love to explore new places as much as possible. Over the last year my favourite places I’ve visited are Whinlatter Forest in the Lake District for adventure and natural beauty, Lindos in Rhodes for total relaxation and Liverpool for a fun weekend and marathon running!
Whats your favourite quote?
To infinity and beyond – Buzz Lightyear
How would your colleagues describe you in a few words?
A friendly person who is bubbly and energetic. I am told I make sense of things and I’m practically minded – although some might say I’m guilty of having a dizzy moment every now and then too!
