Meet the team: Jennie Derbyshire

Hi, I’m Jennie and I’m Marketing and PR Officer at Shift. Read on to find out what my role is all about.

On a typical day, where might we find you?

I’m lucky I get to go all over Derbyshire talking to people and listening to their stories. The other half of the time I’m at Shift HQ in Clay Cross turning those stories into materials to help us spread the word about Shift.

What brought you to Shift?

I’ve always been passionate about working for organisations whose remit is to make a difference. I remember my interview day like it was yesterday even though it’s more than five years ago now. I’d had a year off on maternity leave and I was so excited to be back in an office having an adult conversation with other people. Although it was a little nerve wracking I was struck by the openness and friendliness of the people I met that day and who welcomed me into the fold like I’d been there forever. That’s why Shift is so amazing – the people here are the best!

What’s the best thing about your job?

Being able to hear first hand from people how our work has helped facilitate change is really special. It’s the smallest things which make me feel the most pride in what we do and I find unexpected stories around every corner. I also love having regular catch ups with everyone who works for Shift. Hearing the stories they have to tell about the places they work in gives me a fascinating insight into their world – the good, the bad and the ugly.

What’s your favourite hobby?

Through working here I was inspired by the Jog Derbyshire groups I visited and joined my local one in Chesterfield a few years ago. I love running with the group for the social side of it but also getting out for some me time on my own. I also like walking, the theatre, going on holidays and enjoying the odd glass of wine.

What’s your favourite place?

Anywhere along the coast – home or abroad. Being by the sea makes me really happy and calm. The pandemic has also given me a real appreciation for the nature I have close to home.

What’s your favourite quote?

Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning to dance in the rain

If your colleagues could describe you in a few words, what would they say?

This is the question everybody grumbles at me for and now I’m trying to answer it I know why! I’m generally known as the ‘marketing department’ as there’s always so much to do and I think people would probably describe me as positive, organised and creative.

We love to connect, so get in touch today and say hi
