Group spotlight: High Peak Running Group

Leader of Jog Derbyshire group High Peak Running Group, Liz Stillo tells us all about the group.

How many leaders do you have? One

How many co-leaders do you have? None

Roughly how many participants regularly run with you? 6-12, depends on day

When and where do you meet? Regularly – Sunday mornings 8.30am Chinley village and Monday evenings 6.45 or 7 p.m. Chinley village or Aldi Chapel en le Frith (alternate weeks)

Tell us about the history of the group. How long has it been going and how did it start?

I started the group over 20 years ago, I did my LIRF training and got it going.  It has evolved and changed during that time.  From just email contact to Facebook and local community website.

I have lots of returnees, post pregnancy for example, some have formed small groups and run together at other times, many prefer off-road, so do that.

Tell us a bit about the group

The group is very mixed, very laid back and informal.  We run on lots of different terrain and many do events.  We are very keen on Park run and do that together.

My Monday session is designed round beginners, other people turn up and run on, it gets them out.  Some just come at the beginning then do their own route and go home!

What’s your best memory of the group?

Don’t really have one, but am so pleased that it has survived this long, new people come along, all the time and it is a very level playing field, it doesn’t matter who or what you are, we just run together.

Oh yes, one time, my bra strap broke and the local hairdressing salon gave me some blue tack, which held it together till I got home, I still have this lucky bra!

Are there any extra-special members of the group who deserve a shout out?

All are special in their own way, and all contribute to the session.  We manage to pair up well and support and encourage each other.

What’s the best thing about being part of Jog Derbyshire?

Advice, support and Jog into January, all as and when needed but not “in your face”

Are there any opportunities for other groups to join you?

Yes, recently, a new group started in Chapel en le Frith, so we link up now and again and some of us belong to both.  It gives variety to the sessions and other options for times and days, for everyone.
